City of Valparaíso

The port city of Valparaíso is the third largest in Chile, located at 120 km west of the capitol city of Santiago, in the central coastline. Valparaíso, a natural amphitheater comprising 42 hills, has been declared the cultural capital of Chile and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Home of a variety of attractions, Valparaíso is one of the main seaports in the South Pacific, and is architecturally very rich. The city is famous for its collection of urban elevators, its pictures and colorful houses built on hillsides, its labyrinth of streets, stairways and plazas and its bohemian nightlife.  Local food and gastronomy flourishes in old and new, large and boutique, restaurants overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The neighbor cities of Viña del Mar and Concón are recognized for their splendid beaches, seafood gastronomy, aquatic sports, entertaining nightlife, and for the Quinta Vergara Park, host of a famous International Music Festival.

The surrounding vicinities also offer distinctive tourism attractions, including ski resorts, beaches, hiking and trekking areas and internationally renowned wineries.  At only 45 minute drive is the Casablanca valley, which is one of Chile’s major wine growing valleys for white varieties. Snow sports are practiced at several ski resorts East of Santiago.

The closest airport to Valparaíso is the international airport Arturo Merino Benitez (SCL), an 80 minute drive to the port (www.nuevopudahuel.cl).
